Today is the eighth day of the eighth month of the eighth year in the second millennium! On the eighth second on the eighth minute of the eighth hour tonight, the Beijing Olympics will officially begin.

The five “things” in the Google logo are the five mascots for the Beijing Olympics, namely Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huan Huan, Ying Ying and Ni Ni. Together, they mean “Beijing welcomes you” in Chinese. 205 countries will participate in the 2008 Olympics, and this is undoubtedly going to be a huge event.
